Review Andromeda 10-year Anniversary edition

A decade of Campfire audio Andromeda
Since the launch of the first Andromeda in 2016, it has become one of Campfire Audio’s most recognizable and influential IEM’s. The Andromeda line has built a reputation for a clean and lively tuning, strong technical performance and a distinctive design. For many listeners it became a real benchmark in the IEM world. For Campfire Audio the Andromeda turned into one of the brand shaping models.

Not only did it play a key role in building Campfire Audio’s reputation among IEM enthusiasts. The Andromeda has also become synonymous with the brand within the community.

Over the years, the Andromeda line has seen several iterations and has remained a key part of Campfire Audio’s lineup. With the Andromeda 10, the brand announces the ultimate evolution of the Andromeda story with now 10 BA drivers. A statement piece, built to honor a decade of Andromeda. To push the concept forward with new technology and a higher level of performance.

We are very excited to explore the Andromeda 10-year Anniversary edition.

Design & Build Quality
The Andromeda 10 are sculpted from CNC aluminium and finished with nice facets, giving them a refined look. The celebrated Andromeda green is still very much present, the metallic finish adds extra depth and a more premium feel. The overall design feels elevated and high-tech, still unmistakably Andromeda.

The Andromeda 10 is shipped with the same high-end cable that debuted alongside the Grand Luna. It features Campfire’s new premium swappable cable system. You get interchangeable terminations for 3.5 mm single-ended, 4.4 mm balanced and a USB-C DAC. The key difference here is that the Andromeda 10 uses a 2-pin connector instead of a MMCX.

Comfort & Fit
The Andromeda 10 shells are very comfortable and quickly adapt to your skin temperature. The fit is well-contoured, allowing them to sit naturally in the ear.

The included High & Clear Ear-Tips give the most balanced sound signature. Due to the slightly wide size of the nozzles, smaller ear canals might prefer foam tips for a gentler seal. The weight of the Andromeda 10 is balanced, they don’t feel heavy and are comfortable during extended listening sessions.

Technical Specifications
The Andromeda 10 uses four premium bass drivers, tuned to deliver bass that reaches deep without becoming too dominant. The bass is realistic with detail, texture and a fast accurate response.

For the Andromeda 10 anniversary edition, Campfire Audio used a newly designed mid-driver assembly. This debuts a new mid-driver noise-elimination circuit (NEMC). It reduces unwanted noise and resonance that can occur with balanced armature drivers. The result is a cleaner and more transparent midrange with a stronger detail.

For the top end the Andromeda 10 uses two treble armatures, paired with a TAEC tuning element. This combination extends the treble with more air and openness. This creates a wider sense of space and more precise instrument placement with a more natural and lifelike presentation.

TAEC (Tuned Acoustic Expansion Chamber) is Campfire Audio’s acoustic tuning system. It uses a small expansion chamber to shape high-frequency output, improving openness, air and perceived space.

This is a true flag-ship anniversary release, with serious high-end engineering under the hood.

Test equipment:

Frequency response and tuning
When we look at the curve of the Andromeda 10:

  • There is a strong sub bass, the low end stays full and present. It adds body and warmth without turning into a basshead tuning
  • Calm lower mids around 200 to 800 Hz slightly relaxed which keeps the sound clean and open, avoiding any boxy or overly thick vocals
  • A nice upper midrange around 2 to 4 kHz. Vocals feel close, expressive and amazingly alive
  • Treble energy with air and sparkle peaks around 6 to 10 kHz. This brings out detail, space, reverb tails and micro information. No extreme sharpness is present. It stays energetic, without turning into harshness

Based on the frequency response, the Andromeda 10 combines a full and controlled low end with clean mids and an open top end. The sub bass adds weight and warmth without becoming dominant, while the slightly relaxed lower mids keep the presentation spacious and free of congestion.

A tasteful rise in the upper mids brings clarity and presence and the treble has enough energy for detail and air without sounding sharp. The overall result is a balanced, lively tuning with strong resolution and an easy, natural listen.

Sound quality
What makes the Andromeda 10 so special is how effortless it sounds, no matter what genre you throw at it. It does not try to overdo anything, so no extremes in bass or exaggerated sparkle in treble, it just sounds exactly right. The Andromeda sounds spacious, lively and smooth at the same time. It pulls you in so effortlessly, I almost forgot I was writing a review. The Andromeda 10 became an adventure!

This iteration of the Andromeda sounds natural, with great detail and zero harshness. It is all about the right balance, openness and detail without fatigue. Bass reaches deep with detail, but stays clean and controlled. The mids are well separated and the treble stays lively, but never turns aggressive. Vocals sit naturally forward, enough to feel intimate.

Treble
One of Andromeda 10’s strongest points is the treble. It has a lot of energy and extension, which gives cymbals and strings that light shimmer and keeps the stage open. Details like reverb tails, room ambienc and subtle layering are easy to pick up.

The key here is that it stays controlled. Many IEMs can make vocals or strings sound sharp and edgy when the treble is pushed too hard. The Andromeda 10 avoids that. It is crisp enough to feel high-end, but it is tuned in a way that takes the sharp edge off, so it stays enjoyable even on longer* sessions. (*hours)

Midrange
The midrange is clean, open and very well balanced. The slightly relaxed lower mids keep the sound from becoming thick or congested,. The result is a very layered stage and good separation. Vocals feel and sound intimate, but at the same time everything stays open and well separated.

Upper mids are nicely present, giving vocals clarity and emotion without becoming overly forward. Female vocals have presence and bite when the recording calls for it. Male vocals have natural weight without becoming too warm or too forward. Instruments like piano and saxophone come through with texture and lifelike realism.

Bass
The Andromeda 10’s bass is, thankfully, not about brute force. It is about quality, detail and balance. Sub-bass reaches deep enough to add the right amount of weight and warmth, giving the music a strong and realistic foundation.

Mid bass stays controlled and clean, it does not smear into the mids. This is exactly what makes the Andromeda 10 so versatile; the bass supports the music without stealing the spotlight. It sounds full and satisfying, but still keeps the overall signature open and refined.

Soundstage & Imaging
This is where the Andromeda 10 can feel almost addictive, especially with a track like Alexis Cole – Do You Ever Think of Me. The stage is open and spacious, with strong separation and a natural sense of layering. It does not collapse when jazz or classical recordings get busy and it never turns into a flat left-right presentation.

Imaging is precise and stable, with clear placement across the stage. The sense of air and height is excellent. Instruments do not just sit between your ears, they feel like they float around you with convincing space and depth. The blend of clarity, openness and smoothness is exactly what makes the Andromeda 10 stand out.

Listening Impressions
Testing was mainly done using the Chord TT2 + MScaler, the Chord Mojo 2, as well as the included cable USB DAC. I used the High & Clear Ear-Tips. Needless to say, the Andromeda 10 truly benefits from being paired with the best source possible.

Let’s experience the Andromeda 10 with the following tracks.

Halie Loren – Sway (Quien Sera) (Heart First)
This track worked so incredibly well on the Andromeda 10! It kept the vocals smooth and natural, while still giving the instruments space with sparkle. Here voice, the piano and trumpet sounded lively. This was the first track I listened to and it was off to a great start.

  • Her voice sounded intimate and clean

  • The upper mids brought out articulation without sounding sharp

  • Treble had a light shimmer to cymbals and percussion

  • The bass in the groove was perfectly in balans

Here It is – Peter Gabriel (A Tribute to Leonard Cohen)
The Andromeda handled this track with excellent control. The presentation was open and spacious, Peter Gabriels vocals sounded amazing. Bass support was superb.

  • Clean lower mids kept the track transparent and open

  • Peter Gabriels sounded centered and natural, very smooth

  • Reverb and decay came through clearly

Señor Blues – Mark Winkler & Cheryl Bentyne (West Coast Cool)
With this track I could clearly hear how well the Andromeda 10 performed with separation and staging. It performed flawlessly. The total track was airy and well organised, even with this full jazz arrangement. The upright bass stayed tight and controlled, The piano sat naturally in the mix, with a clear sense of body and woody resonance. The cymbals and drums had plenty of air. There was amazing texture and depth, nothing sounded sharp. I really advice to experience this song with the Andromeda 10.

  • Both voices remained distinctly seperated
  • Upper mids gave vocals the right presence
  • Treble had air to cymbals and instrument edges
  • Bass was natural, detailed, tight and controlled

Alexis Cole – Do you Ever Think of Me (A kiss in the dark)
This is one of those tracks where the Andromeda 10 gets the balance just right; intimate vocals, strong detail and zero harshness. Instruments float around you with clear height and width. Alexis Cole voice sounded natural, the upright bass provided a warm foundation. The saxophone came through smooth and textured.

  • Vocal sat close without becoming aggressive

  • Micro detail were easy to pick up, never forced

  • Upright bass added warmth and body without getting too thick

  • Saxophone sounded remarkably smooth and well separated

  • Treble gave the track openness and space

Salve Regina & Ad te Clamamus – Christopher Hogwood (Pergolesi Stabat Mater)
I’ve encountered plenty of headphones and IEMs that struggled with this track and for good reason. It’s a challenging piece to reproduce correctly. Classical female vocals can often turn into sharp or piercing on many IEMs. With the Andromeda 10, this piece achieved a rare balance. It felt like any harsh edges had been gently polished away. Strings maintained texture and detail without becoming glassy and the vocal lines remained controlled. The Andromeda 10 created a natural sense of space and layering.

  • Strings had texture without sounding glassy
  • Vocals were clear and controlled, with amazing seperation
  • Strong sense of space and layering
  • Treble had air without turning sharp
